What your body is actually doing when it aligns — and what happens when it can't.
Most of us were handed the same instruction as kids: sit up straight. Shoulders back, chin up, hold it there. It's well-meaning advice. It's also, as it turns out, a fairly incomplete picture of what posture actually is.

Inside your muscles are sensory receptors — muscle spindles and Golgi tendon organs — that report, moment to moment, how long a muscle is and how much tension it's carrying. That information travels to the brain and spinal cord, which compare what you intended to do with what's actually happening, and adjust. When everything is working well, your skeleton rests in a neutral, uninhibited position — bones properly seated, muscles and ligaments under appropriate tension. We call that functional posture. After activity, it self-aligns — through normal movement and stretching, it settles back to neutral on its own.

So what goes wrong?
Sometimes the body doesn't complete that reset.
